If in doubt, get it checked out!
Each time you attend for a routine dental appointment the dentist will perform a mouth cancer screening.
The dentist will assess the health of your gums, inner cheeks, roof of your mouth, tonsils, throat and underneath your tongue. They will use a mirror and may also use their hands to feel for any unusual nodules or masses. It takes less than two minutes to carry out a comprehensive mouth cancer screening, but it could help to save your life.
If identified early mouth cancer has a 90% survival rate, so it is very important that any changes are identified early. If your dentist notices anything of concern they will refer you to the hospital for further tests.
