How long does teeth straightening take?
Everyone’s teeth straightening journey is unique. Teeth straightening is not designed to give immediate results. If you want to straighten your smile, you must be patient and allow your teeth to move gradually over time.
Be committed
Are you ready to start your journey to a straighter smile? If so, you need to be ready to commit to not only to wearing braces or aligners, you also need to commit to attend for regular dental appointments, so the dentist can monitor your teeth as they move towards their final position. This is incredibly important as you may have to wear your braces for up to 3 years.
First step
You have now decided you are ready to start your teeth straightening journey, the next step is to book in for an initial consultation. At this appointment, the dentist will assess the health of your teeth and gums, will take x-rays and will make study models to determine the right kind of teeth straightening treatment to help you achieve the smile of your dreams!
Starting treatment
Once the dentist has determined the best teeth straightening treatment to meet your needs, it will be time to be fitted for your braces. This may mean attending for an appointment so that the dentist can attach fixed braces or so the dentist can provide you with your aligners. It is important that you pay close attention to the oral hygiene practices your dentist recommends to keep your brace looking its best and to ensure that you do not end up with tooth decay or gum disease.
Follow up appointments
You will need to attend for regular appointments throughout your treatment. These are crucial for keeping your teeth moving as planned. The frequency of these appointments will depend on the teeth straightening treatment you are undergoing.
D Day
Once your teeth are straight your braces can be removed. You will need to wear a retainer following treatment to ensure that your teeth do not regress to their original position.
Benfleet Dental Centre
Here at Benfleet Dental Centre we are pleased to be able to offer both Invisalign and Fixed braces.
Invisalign
With over 6 million transformations completed worldwide, you can be sure Invisalign will help to reveal the smile you deserve. Invisalign aligners are barely visible and removable, so treatment can fit your lifestyle and allow you to straighten your teeth without anyone else needing to know. Invisalign can provide a solution to treat both mild and severe teeth straightening issues – treating gapped teeth, overcrowded teeth, a deep bite, an underbite, a cross bite or an open bite.
Fixed braces
Fixed braces are an effective way to improve the appearance of your smile. Fixed braces are the most common type of brace and can be used to straighten both your upper and lower teeth. Small brackets are cemented onto your teeth and joined together with a wire. Over time these wires are gradually tightened, applying gentle pressure to your teeth to move them into the desired position.
